Behind the Build

Web craft, design, and performance lessons from building and rebuilding our own site and our clients' sites.

A check turned green and the page shipped, and later someone found it broken. This pillar is for owners who are rebuilding a site and for anyone who has to trust a build that says it passed. It collects lessons from building and rebuilding our own site and the sites we make for clients.

Expect posts about silent failures and false greens, and about checking the claim instead of the string. Some are about dates that come out a day off, or framework upgrades that quietly change what a site outputs. Others cover rendered checks and the images and icons used for sharing. Another asks when a diagram beats a generated image. We also write about designing for older readers and small screens, and about why a wall of text is a defect. Every post is based on something we hit ourselves, with technical claims checked against official documentation.

You should leave with a sharper eye for what a build is really telling you. These lessons shape the sites we build for service businesses, and our web design page shows how.
